Patents
Sr. Product Designer / Director of UX Apple, HP 2016 – 2020
A few of my public patents. Each one came straight out of shipping product work: I ran into a problem that had no existing solution and had to invent one.
The Apple patents grew out of iAd and Apple News, back when I was thinking a lot about how a message could carry more intent. The Poly patent came out of COVID: our video endpoints were sitting in conference rooms all over the world, and room capacity had suddenly become a safety question.
Virtual Assistant Aided Communication With 3rd Party Service
Siri integration in iMessage, letting a virtual assistant broker interactions between users and outside services without leaving the conversation.
Virtual Assistant in a Communication Session
Peer-to-peer financial transactions within a messaging session, mediated by a virtual assistant.
Preventing Unsafe Meeting Attendee Counts at a Videoconferencing Endpoint
Camera-based room occupancy detection that enforces capacity limits at videoconferencing endpoints automatically.
